Revenge at Guang Chang Long

Zhao Huai’an is the second generation of a once wealthy family.  He brings what is left from his declining clan to do business in Guangzhou, but ends up spending every dollar on a decadent life.  He falls in love the celebrated courtesan Liao Xiaoqiao, who believes Zhao could marry her.

Hearing nothing from Huai’an, uncle Zhao Guaqi goes to Guangzhou to look for him.  Uncle Guaqi finds out Huai’an has lost his last money for business.  Guaqi is very angry, but the news that Huai’an is in love with a courtesan invokes his greed.  He teaches Huai’an to deceive Xiaoqiao for all her savings.  Huai’an visits Xiaoqiao at the Yuelai Inn and makes up a story that he needs money for business and for paying those in power for the necessary connections – he is doing these so that Xiaoqiao can become Mrs Zhao of a prominent family.  Xiaoqiao believes every word and gives all that she owns to Huai’an.  After Huai’an leaves the inn, Guaqi hands over a break-up letter written by Huai’an.  Xiaoqiao is saddened that she has no love or money.  She cannot go back to the boudoir either.  She hangs herself in the inn, which becomes haunted ever since...

Raccoon for a Prince (Part 1)

In Imperial Harem of the Emperor Zhenzong of Song, Queen Liu, with her chamber servant Guo Huai, is plotting to harm the delivering Consort Li to safeguard her position in the palace.  They take the new-born away and swap him into a skinned cat, Consort Li is framed for giving birth to a monster and is banished to the Cold Palace by Zhenzong.

At the order of Queen Liu, chamber maid Kouzhu is to throw the new prince under Jinshui Bridge.  Looking hesitant and suspicious, chamber servant Chen Lin interrogates her and discovers the truth.  To protect the heir of their emperor, Kouzhu and Chen Lin put the baby into a fruit box and send him out of the palace to the kind prince the Eighth Prince.  The Eighth Prince decides to raise the baby as his own son to protect him from being murdered and wait for the chance to right the wrongs for Consort Li.  On the other hand, Queen Liu also commands to burn the Cold Palace down “accidentally” in order to kill Consort Li and end the story, fortunately, with the help of the deity, Consort Li is able to escape from this evil plot.

Ten years later, Zhenzong falls ill and is about to die. Since he has no heir, he wants to name his “nephew” the crown prince.  The Eighth Prince brings Zhao Zhen to the palace, so that the father and son can meet secretly.  Guo Huai suspects the identity of the new crown prince.  Kouzhu is summoned by Queen Liu for the interrogation.  Facing life-threatening tortures, the loyal Kouzhu still prefers being beaten to death to having her secret exposed.
