The Legend of the White Snake

 

Scene 1   Touring the West Lake   (Guangdong)

The White Snake and the Green Snake have been practicing to become immortals for a thousand years.  They look at the mortal world and transform themselves into human forms.  Bai Suzhen, the White Snake, meets scholar Xu Xian at West Lake of Hangzhou.  It is love at first sight.  The two get married and run a herbal shop to cure patients.

Xiaoqing: Mo Weiying

Boatman: Chen Jiading

 

Scene 2   A Startling Change (Macao)

The couple offers free medical services and affects the donations made to Jinshan Temple.  Monk Fahai is resentful.  Fahai instigates Xu Xian to reveal the true form of Suzhen using Realgar wine.  Xu Xian is terrified to death at what he sees.

Scene 3   Stealing the Magical Plant (Hong Kong)

Suzhen risks her life to steal the magical lingzhi herb to rescue Xu Xian.  She fights with the Immortal Crane Child and Immortal Deer Child and eventually acquires the magical plant to save her husband.

Scene 4   Flooding Jinshan Temple (Guangdong)

Xu Xian is tricked and trapped at Jinshan Temple by Monk Fahai.  When Suzhen tries to save her husband, she is suppressed by celestial soldiers.  Suzhen fights back by flooding Jinshan Temple.  Yet, her power is weakened because she is pregnant.  She does not manage to win.

Scene 5   The Broken Bridge  (Hong Kong)

Suzhen flees to the Broken Bridge and meets Xu Xian.  The couple explains to each other and reconciles.

Scene 6   Trapped in the Golden Bowl  (Macao)

After giving birth, Suzhen is trapped into a golden bowl by Fahai and suppressed under the Leifeng Pagoda.

Xiaoqing: Cheong Sut Ian

Scene 7   The Falling of the Pagoda (Guangdong)

Xiaoqing practises her magic and finally defeats Monk Fahai.  Leifeng Pagoda collapses.  Suzhen is saved.

The running time of the performance is approximately 3 hours including an intermission of 15 minutes.
