Over the past 10 years, contemporary dance has been rapidly developing in China, with many Chinese contemporary dance icons emerging. This session takes the audience along the journey of the rise of contemporary dance in China.
Session 6: Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and contemporary dance in Taiwan (26.10.2016)
As the first professional dance troupe in Taiwan, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre is also the cradle of local art and culture. This session looks at the creation of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, which is characterized by the combination of tradition and ethnicity, as well as the novel development direction of contemporary dance in Taiwan.
Session 7: Current status of contemporary dance in Hong Kong (2.11.2016)
Hong Kong is a city where diverse cultures converge. Contemporary dance of the city is infused with irreplaceable local flavours. This session examines the current situation of contemporary dance in Hong Kong from different perspectives.

Andy Wong
Andy Wong first received his training at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts majoring in ballet and later joined the Hong Kong Ballet in 1990 after graduation and the City Contemporary Dance Company in 1991. He studied modern dance in US with the Stanley Ho Fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council. He restructured DanceArt Hong Kong with France Leung and Yvette Huang in 1995 to promote modern dance creation and dance education for the society. Essential works include A Beautiful Lifeseries, My Party, Paper Balloon, Smoke Factory, And Then...?, The Good, the Bad and Scarlett O’Hara, Individual Dreams, Embrace,Blind Dates, To Love U More, Dance Theatre My Life as a Dancer the Evolution, Butterfly Effect We are not Strangers, Green Dance.
Vanessa Cheung
Vanessa Cheung is a lecturer with the School of Dance of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She teaches somatics and dance education modules of the BFA (Hons) degree and MFA (Dance) programme. She also oversees the development of outreach projects and acts as a mentor for postgraduate students. Cheung works as a lecturer and an independent art worker. She has collaborated with different educational groups and organisations, including the Hong Kong Institute of Education; Hong Kong Ballet Education and Outreach Unit; City Contemporary Dance Company Dance Centre; Hong Kong Downʹs Syndrome Association Dance Group; Phillip Wain (Hong Kong); Body Lab Pilates Studio (Taiwan), etc. She co-founded Choreo 3 with friends in the U.S. in 1998, and she has worked with companies such as Dansomenia, Dance HK/NY and DanceArt, along with numerous independent artists.
