Into The Choreo- / Photo- graphy by Terry Tsang 【Online Programme】

With theme of choreography and photography, the 4-episode programme Into the Choreo-/Photo-graphy by Terry Tsang explores the mysterious corners of both artistic genres: how do dance visuals influence the moment of camera captures? And how do the camera captures inspire the choreographic creations?

Terry Tsang
Young choreographer and dancer in Hong Kong, and nominee of Outstanding Performing Male Dancer in the Hong Kong Dance Awards 2019.

Terry studied in The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts majoring in Contemporary Dance, and was a full-time dancer in the City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) during 2013 – 2019. Recently, he received invitations to perform and to create works for many times, including giving solo performance at the “Hong Kong Dance Awards”, and creating and presenting works at “Hong Kong Jockey Club Contemporary Dance” Series in Hong Kong Arts Festival, “New Force in Motion” Series in the Cultural Presentations Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, “Dancers’ Homework” in CCDC, as well as twice of CCDC Dance Centre Training scholarship for cultural exchanges and presenting works at the Beijing Dance Festival and the Guangdong Dance Festival.

His creation Mo Ngaan Tai had been restaged at the City Contemporary Dance Festival and H.D.X. International Festival in Hong Kong shortly after premiere in 2019, and has been invited to What To Dance Festival (Taiwan), Kuandu Arts Festival (Taiwan) and Armunia/Festival Inequilibrio (Italy). Terry is currently an individual creator, and has been delving into dance photography with his establishment of photo_t.jj, exploring the possibility and relationship of human body.

In a monologue by Terry, he shares and re-creates the scenarios of his exploratory journey of choreography and photography.

A selection of stage photos with reminiscence from Terry and choreographers, re-interpreted through re-imaginings by different dancers. (conducted in Cantonese, partially in Mandarin)

A selection from Terry’s photographic archives, as he delves into his concept of photography, re-imagines and re-interprets with different dancers, injecting new life into the photos.

A dialogue with veterans of choreographer and stage photographer, sharing each one’s artistic preferences, and an exchange of ideas, capturing the actual scenario of themed photo-shooting. (conducted in Cantonese, partially in Mandarin)
