BE is a lively, active little guy who loves to travel, but his playfulness often lands him in hot soup. Can he learn from his mistakes, and get home safely each time after clocking up a valuable lesson?
In these four episodes, BE travels to different places and experiences something totally different each time.
Conducted in Cantonese with Chinese subtitls
The programme does not represent the views of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
BE KIDS is the children’s division of Banana Effect, a performing arts group dedicated to developing Chinese and Western puppet culture, as well as interactive puppet theatre that allows audience participation. Instead of the traditional Q&A approach to interacting with the audience, the group places more emphasis on the audience’s tangible experiences and sensory perceptions. They have designed a series of dynamic games that uses puppets as the medium to activate the audience’s imagination, overcome the limitations of space, terrain and time, and launch scene after scene of a journey filled with magical charm.
Episode 1: To the United States (Available from 26 November)
On a business trip to the United States, BE’s mum takes BE along to visit his aunt Mary and cousin Tony. It is the first time BE has to get along with a boy who is ethnic Chinese but brought up differently, so he is at a loss as to how to behave. The different lifestyle habits of the two boys lead to misunderstandings and funny situations. After living together for two weeks, BE finally realises the importance of accepting one another. Although they may live thousands of miles apart, they are family after all.
Episode 2: To Greece (Available from 3 December)
BE’s grandpa is wise and knowledgeable, and everyone calls him “Dr Effect”. He is a retired history teacher, and likes to travel, to learn and experience different cultures and their history. On a visit to Greece, Dr Effect decides to take his six-year-old grandson with him for an eye-opening trip. But the mischievous and impatient BE is not as keen on learning as Dr Effect imagined. He does not make the most of the opportunities visiting historical sites and cultural relics, and earns a telling-off from his grandpa. Apart from ancient culture, Greece is also a food paradise. On seeing all the nice food, BE cannot stop eating. In the end, BE learns the lesson of “eat less, tastes better; eat too much, tummy suffers”.
Episode 3:To France (Available from 10 December)
BE always squabbles with his four-year-old sister Kelly, and often makes fun of her drawings. Their mother has a handful dealing with their antics, so she signs them up for a study tour in France during the holidays in the hope that they will learn to cherish each other away from home. BE’s mother is really surprised that, from the French experience, the two kids also get to understand the importance of art. Not only can art help them build stamina, concentration and imagination, it can also relax the mind, improve memory, and strengthen learning and receptive abilities.
Episode 4: The Beautiful Hong Kong (Available from 17 December)
BE and Chewy are buddies in class, and they play football together on the same team. One day, the two join a hiking excursion, together with Kelly. Although the plan is to have a good time being close to nature, it allows BE to see Chewy in another light: he is far from being a friend of nature, instead he litters everywhere with his trash, picks flowers and plants all the way, and even gets separated from the group. It earns him a severe telling-off which made him understand that he must take good care of nature and get along amicably with his friends.
