A one-man creative blend of mime, dance and circus

An attempt to fling the absurdities of Martin Zimmermann's inner life inside out and get a grip on the human fragility and contradictions
Hallo is a solo performance by Martin Zimmermann with elements of mime, dance, circus and tragicomedy. It is an attempt to fling the absurdities of his inner life inside out and get a grip on his bizarre thought processes. For the setting of Hallo, he has chosen a frame structure, turning it into a shop-window-type space to showcase a tragicomic figure driven by the desire to become what he appears to be. The staid and seemingly static framework turns out to be much more dynamic and fragile than one thought. The performer tries to adapt himself to the ever more out-of-control world of appearances. Objects come alive and fly around his head, magic overflows the space, obliterating the border between fiction and reality. It has been staged at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Next Wave Festival 2015 in the United States.

'Boundless Multimedia' Series: Hallo by Zimmermann & de Perrot (Switzerland)
Martin Zimmermann is a director, choreographer and physical actor in Switzerland. He is one of the founders of the Zimmermann & de Perrot and he has been appearing onstage for about 20 years. With Hallo he presents for the first time ever a solo creation. Humour, magic and absurdity give rise to the singularity of Zimmermann's artistic works. For his pieces he invents whimsical, outlandish worlds in which to stage his figures and bizarre objects. He often extracts the ordinary from reality and sets it in his parallel worlds, where it appears oddly misplaced and absurd. He wreaks havoc on conventions, challenges the customary, unveils the hidden, allows the improbable to emerge as plausible and prompts viewers to think differently. He has performed over the years in renowned theatres and festivals across Europe and around the world, such as France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom.
