Chan Pik-sum, dubbed “Goddess of the erhu”, is collaborating with music arranger Johnny Yim and accompanying musicians of Chinese and Western instruments in his series of four online concerts. The characteristics of huqin will be on display in each concert. Yim will weave new arrangements from the spectrum between traditional and modern styles. Chan will also bring pleasant surprises to audiences, turning out Chinese/Guangdong music, Western classical music and pop, as she jams with piano, yangqin, cello, harmonica and more.
Guided appreciation / chit-chat session in each episode is conducted in Cantonese.

Episode 1: Perennial Hits in Chinese Music (Available from 5pm on 27 Nov)
The piano, erhu and yangqin trio will perform new arrangements of some of the best known classics in Chinese music, endowing them with a refreshing modern touch and highlighting the quaint elegance of huqin. Programme includes Autumn Moon Upon Placid Lake, Horse Racing and The Sun Shines on Taxkorgan.

Episode 2: Story of Nanyin – The Wistful Southern Tunes (Available from 5pm on 11 Dec)
Nanyin (or naamyum in Cantonese) is a type of traditional sung music popularly found in Guangdong province. Accompanied by the yehu as lead instrument, as well as the xiao, zheng and Qinqin, the soulful singer narrates many heartbreaking stories of love.

Episode 4: Music from Cantonese Movies (Available from 5pm on 10 Sep)
Cantonese music used to be a staple in Cantonese feature films and movies. From tear-jerking background music to mellifluous mood-makers, there are many familiar tunes that can bring back the “good old days” for generations of filmgoers. Come and take a walk down memory lane in this concert, as the huqin and the yangqin underscore the moving images from old Cantonese movies.
