Thomas Hung
Born in 1999, cellist Thomas Hung was awarded in the Secretary for Home Affairs' Commendation Scheme in recognition of his musical achievements in 2012. Hung first started learning cello with his parents at a young age, and at the same time received lessons from Artem Konstantinov and Stefan Popov. He is currently studying cello under the tutelage of Ray Wang at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and serves as a member of the cello faculty at the Academy. In addition, Hung took part in masterclasses with Yo-Yo Ma, Wang Jian, David Finckel, David Strange, Csaba Onczay and Colin Carr amongst many other renowned cellists.
Hung enjoys an active role as a young performer. His solo experiences included performances with the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as orchestras in Latvia and Taiwan. In addition, his recital concerts had taken him to audience in the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, cross-strait cultural exchanges in Taipei and Hong Kong.
In 2012, Hung won the 2nd prize of the 7th International Karl Davidov Cello Competition in Latvia. As the youngest participant, he was also a finalist in the 7th National Youth Cello Competition (18 and above) in 2018. Hung was awarded a full scholarship by the Asian Cultural Council in 2019 to attend the Aspen Music Festival and School as a fellow.
