Dizi performer Ho Siu-cheong will employ the techniques of playing traditional Guangdong music on dizi and dongxiao to perform Guangdong classics. In addition, he will also perform on Yuedi, Yuexiao and paidi to bring the fluid and beautiful melodies, crisp and bright tones and joyous rhythms of Guangdong music as well as well-known modern dizi and xiao pieces to audience. Ho will also use xun, an ancient Chinese musical instrument, to play The Flowing Water and the Drifting Clouds in an intriguing way.
Ho will also try to push back the frontier of Chinese dongxiao by adopting of his originated techniques of shakuhachi, a Japanese end-blown flute, and join up with shakuhachi performer Sunny Yeung to play Wind Blowing, written by renowned Japanese composer Kineya Seiho. Ho will also present two hand-picked magnificent dizi concertos: Lan Huahua and Mountain Breeze.
Running time of the performance is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes including an intermission of 15 minutes.
Audience is strongly advised to arrive punctually. Latecomers will only be admitted at a suitable break.

Ho Siu-cheong
Ho Siu-cheong is a graduate of the Department of Chinese Music from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), and was awarded the Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree. He received the Aedas Scholarship, Hang Seng Bank Community Service Scholarship, HSBC Scholarship and Musicus Society Trey Lee Scholarship when he was a student. Ho studied dizi under the tutelage of Sun Yongzhi, the dizi principal of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, and dizi virtuoso Choo Boon-chong. He also studied Guangdong dizi with renowned Guangdong music performer Wu Guozhong, and studied dongxiao with master Tam Po-shek. He also received directions from the grandmaster of southern schools Lu Chunling and Zhan Yongming. Ho is currently the Chairman of Bauhinia Music Society, a council member of the Dizi Society of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, a council member of the Professional Committee for Dizi of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, an honorary council member of the Jiangsu Dizi Society, artistic director and conductor for the Taoist Music Orchestra of Sik Sik Yuen, member of Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble and a freelance musician of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
Ho is the award winner of the gold prize in Asian Youth Invitational Competition in Traditional Chinese Musical Instruments and the first prize in the Second Music Performance Graded Contest of the China Conservatory of Music (Guangdong District) in 2006. His contribution to music education, performance and promotion of music was recognised by the Tuen Mun Arts Promotion Association and awarded him the Artist Award (Music) in 2015.
Ho held a good number of sold-out solo recitals to critical acclaim during 2013-2016. He was invited by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels for a Europe concert tour for 13 days in 2016. His performances were aired over local television and radio networks in Europe and Ho was highly praised for his dizi skills and performance style. In addition to being a soloist, Ho also performs in pop concerts and hosts music lectures. He has also written and published two introductory books to dizi.
