"The Janoska Ensemble is a remarkable ensemble with excellent arrangements – a real discovery for me that you will hear a lot more of!" Christoph Eschenbach (Conductor)
Ondrej, Roman and František – the Slovakian brothers from Bratislava – spring from six generations of musicians. Their brother-in-law, Julius Darvas from Constance, also comes from a family with three generations of double bass players. The four musicians have been based in Vienna since their school days. This ancient capital in which music cultures converge gives rich inspirations to the ensemble before their eyes and never puts a halt. Accomplished in each of their own music careers, the talented four have not only given solo recitals at signature concert halls such as the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Carnegie Hall in New York, Sydney Opera House and Berlin Konzerthaus, but also frequently joined up to perform in various ensemble concerts. In 2013, the four decided to form the Janoska Ensemble. Their refreshing yet intriguing improvisation earned them immediate fame worldwide with their family ties. Their critically acclaimed debut album Janoska Style released in May 2016 by Deutsche Grammophon, an album of works by renowned names, including Johann Strauss II, Kreisler, Paganini, Mozart and Piazzolla in a brand-new style, is a testament to their virtuosity and distinguished techniques.
Fusing popular classical works with a gentle touch of various music genres, including Latin, Tango, Gypsy and Pop jazz, the one-and-only “Janoska Style” is a showcase of their competence on refining details and outstanding musicality. Right away, the ensemble of brothers are ready to challenge the audiences’ understanding on musical genres and to expand your imagination on music! That is only Freestyle, you may say. Indeed, this is JANOSKA STYLE.
