Conducted in Cantonese
The rekindled interest in the Silk Road as a trope for performing Chinese identities over the past decade or so has brought enormous attention to the Uyghur, who are Central Asian Turkic Muslims residing in the northwestern Chinese province of Xinjiang. The series of three talks seeks to listen closely to the voices of the Uyghur by exploring music and other aspects of traditional and modern Uyghur performing arts.
