The performance will run for about 1 hour and 30 minutes including a 15 minute intermission.

Audience is strongly advised to arrive punctually. Latecomers will only be admitted during the intermission or at a suitable break.

Alison Lau

Hailed by Germany's Saxon Newspaper for her "pure tone, natural approach and perfectly crafted pronunciation" which "captivated the audience", soprano Alison Lau is one of the most promising singers of her generation. She was the winner of the Outstanding Performance Award at the Metropolitan International Vocal Competition in New York, the first prize at the 10th Yokohama International Music Competition (Vocal Category) in Japan, and the Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater Special Prize at the 22nd Concorso Internazionale per Cantanti Lirici Spazio Musica in Orvieto, Italy. In 2017, Lau was awarded in the Secretary for Home Affairs' Commendation Scheme in recognition of her musical achievements.

Highlights of the 2017-18 season include her solo début in Germany with Brahms' A German Requiem and her performance with Al Ayre Español in the Young Friends of The Hong Kong Arts Festival, a highly praised concert which led to an immediate invitation to Lau's début at the Berlin Philharmonie. Lau also sang in a series of French mélodie recitals in Hong Kong and Taipei with the Music Lab, and continues to collaborate with Die Konzertisten in the Bach Pilgrimage Series and H.I.P. (Historically Informed Performance) project as soprano soloist. In addition, Lau's début album with the Universal Music Hong Kong was released in summer this year.

An avid concert singer with a special interest in art songs and the baroque repertoire, Lau is equally sought after across the recital, concert and opera stage. Her performance as Helena in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream was acclaimed by Time Out Magazine as showing "great promise dramatically and vocally". She frequently performs with arts organisations and groups in Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Arts Festival, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera Hong Kong, Music Lab, Die Konzertisten, SingFest and Hong Kong Bach Choir.

Lau received her Master's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston in 2015, after completing her Bachelor's degree at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 2013. She was one of the "Young Music Makers" featured in the Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4 in 2012 and a member of the Jockey Club Opera Hong Kong Young Artist Development Programme from 2015 to 2017.
