In Cantonese
An egg broken by outside force becomes food; if broken by inside force, turns into life.
Pressure can breakdown someone; a breakthrough with inner strength enables someone to grow.
To retrain the motor skills of her right hand after recovering from an illness, Xi Xi took up bear-sewing and wrote the amazing Notes on Sewing Bears. It is much more than a book. Indeed, it was written to challenge her physical limits; it is a project that transforms her knowledge about the world into “cuddly cute” behavioural art.
The performance is inspired by Notes on Sewing Bears. I enter the white room, a wooden column is erected in the middle; its surface is covered with scratches made by grizzly bears. I want to carve out its wildness; my wildness is as visible as can be. The child in mask sits in a corner. Young people and young happenings take up the room. White noise from the TV fills up the space. I use half my body and work on my carving in this crowded time and space. Each and every cut is painful yet sensational!
Five performers roar with their music and dance with senseless boredom. In the myriad of image, young bodies reflect how we evolve from predicaments. The echo of life that has never stopped sounding in our solitude is heard.
