A Story of Two Celestials in the Mortal World
The old Tang emperor has died, and the new emperor orders the return of Lu Gaitian, previously a middle-ranking concubine of the late emperor who was ordered to be a nun prior to his death. Lu returns with Sima Wan’er, another palace maid. Veteran General Xu Yuanba castigates Lu by whipping her three times. Lu meets Li Yi, the second crown prince, and falls in love with him. Two years later, Lu comes to power and the crown prince Li Nianci is sent to prison. When the new emperor also dies, Nianci hands over the imperial seal to Lu. Li Yi returns on the day Lu declares herself the monarch. He pretends to work alongside with Lu. Leaders in the southwest stage a coup but fail in the attempt.
