Acclaimed Poetess’ Fascinating Verses Captured in Contemporary Dances

The dance drama centres around the tumultuous life of the famous Song dynasty poetess Li Qingzhao. By showcasing Li's romantic world from a modern and creative perspective, the programme aims to promote traditional Chinese culture with such touching works. Through recreating scenes of her life journey from youthful idealism to profound resilience, the dance drama embodies her lyrical verses capturing themes of love and loss; and celebrates her strength and optimism in adversity, her unwavering pursuit of cultural inheritance and her noble spirit.
A Programme of ‘Chinese Performing Arts Hong Kong Season’ Series
The running time of each performance is approximately 2 hours including an intermission of 15 minutes.
Members of the audience are strongly advised to arrive punctually. Latecomers and those who leave their seats during the performance will only be admitted and allowed to return to their seats respectively during the intermission or at a suitable break. The presenter reserves the right to refuse admission of latecomers, or determine the time and manner of admission of latecomers.

Shanghai Dance Theatre
Founded in 1979, Shanghai Dance Theatre has a rich repertoire of programmes that receive critical acclaim both locally and internationally. The group has been awarded numberous awards such as the 'Five One Project' Award, the Wenhua Grand Award, the National Fine Stage Arts Project Award and the China Dance Lotus Award. It has produced notable works include dance drama The Eternal Waves, Farewell My Concubine and Crested Ibises etc.
By learning dance movements from Azure After the Rain with the dancers, participants will experience how to express the unique aesthetic of the Song Dynasty through dance in this workshop.
