‘Cheers!’ Series: Zorro by ALFA Theatre Pilsen (Czech Republic)

Hong Kong Premiere |  A Czech puppet theater brings the heroic ride of the masked swordsman - Zorro! ♬ ♪︎ 

Zorro is a masked superhero who comes and goes without a trace. He trounces the bully and rescues the weak, acts that have won him the love and respect of the villagers.  He always appears to save them in the nick of time, leaving behind his mysterious and glorious signature “Z”.   

A rampant captain is plundering everything and even resorting to despicable means like threatening to throw villagers in jail to get what he wants.  One day, he meets the young and beautiful lady, Isabella, quickly falls in love with her at a very first glance and propose marriage to her.  Isabella and her mother, however, refused the proposal, which resulted in their imprisonment.

Can Zorro rescue the hostages from the clutches of the captain this time?  Will his secret identity be revealed?

Zorro is a puppet show that combines the elements of adventure, justice and comedy.  The Czech puppeteers can exquisitely control the puppets with ingenious dexterity with the live mariachi music band (Mexican folk music) to bring the extraordinary legend of Zorro to audience vividly.

The running time is approximately 1 hour without intermission.

The puppeteers of Czech Republic will introduce the history of ALFA Theatre Pilsen, the structure and manipulation techniques of the puppets in the workshop.  Participants can enjoy close encounter with the traditional puppets from Czech Republic.

ALFA Theatre Pilsen was formerly a Children’s Theatre and established in Pilsen, the well-known cradles of traditional puppetry, in Czech Republic in 1966.  The greatest Czech puppetry company captivates audiences around the world with its incredible artistry and funny style.  The Theatre addresses a broad audiences of all ages, offering them an alternative to the dominant media culture. The repertoires are varied in both theme and genre, from classic and modern fairytales to world drama.  

The Theatre has undertaken over 100 foreign tours to countries including Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, etc since 1970.  The theatre has also been the joint organiser of the largest puppet festival in the Czech Republic since 1967.
