China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra
A national-level orchestra established in 1949, the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra (CBCO) is one of five affiliates of the China Broadcasting Performing Arts Troupe. With superb artistic and management standards, the CBCO has accomplished a long history of remarkable achievements and wreathed with particular renown both at home and abroad.
The CBCO has an establishment of close to 100. It started with the active guidance and untiring efforts of distinguished conductor and composer Peng Xiuwen, who pioneered the configuration of a Chinese orchestra, viz. four sections of bowed strings, plucked strings, woodwinds and percussion. This orchestra's format is now widely adopted by other Chinese orchestras in the Mainland and other parts of the world.
In its over 70-year history, the CBCO has performed and recorded thousands of scores for films, television, radio broadcasts, as well as albums, and it is part of the mainstay of the film and broadcasting industry in the Mainland. The Orchestra has also nurtured numerous conductors, composers and musicians, who won a devoted following all over the world. It has toured more than 70 countries and regions in Asia, Europe and the United States, actively engaging in cultural exchanges, building friendships, and promoting Chinese art and culture.
Pang Kapang (Artistic Director/Principal Conductor) (24/10 only)
A National Class One Conductor, Pang Kapang holds the position of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, China Film Symphony Orchestra, China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, China Oriental Symphony Orchestra, Oriental Chinese Orchestra and Suzhou Chinese Orchestra. He is also Resident Guest Conductor of several foreign ensembles, namely the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Graz Symphony Orchestra, Korea's Busan Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra, and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. Pang was the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Chinese Orchestra between 2003 and 2016.
Pang is an alumnus of the Central Conservatory of Music's Department of Conducting, graduating with a master's degree in 1992. In 1996, he won the 35th International Kondrashin Master Class Award. He attended the 1997 International Conductors Master Class in Kiev, Ukraine where he finished top of the class. In 2003, Pang received the China Gold Record Special Conducting Award. The following year, he was named one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young People of China. Following Pang's successful direction of the Chinese New Year Concert at the Musikverein in Vienna in 2000, he has conducted various major orchestras at the same venue for 13 consecutive years. He has led orchestral delegations to Switzerland, Germany and the United States to give concerts, and been invited to conduct leading orchestras in Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria.
Chen Xieyang (Guest Conductor) (25/10 only)
Chen Xieyang is a National Class One Conductor. He currently serves as Honorary Music Director of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, and Guest Conductor of China National Symphony Orchestra and China National Traditional Orchestra. Chen was appointed Resident Conductor of the Shanghai Ballet Orchestra after graduating from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 1982, he was invited to conduct the festival orchestra at the Aspen Music Festival to a resounding success. In 1984, Chen joined the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra as its President, and two years later, he became its Music Director, the first ever appointment in any performing group in the history of cultural development in the Mainland. In 1998 and 1999, Chen led the China National Traditional Orchestra on tour to Austria, Germany and Denmark to perform in Chinese New Year Concerts at various concert halls including the world-famous Musikverein in Vienna and Philharmonie Berlin. In 2000, Chen once again went on tour with the China National Traditional Orchestra, visiting the United States as part of the Chinese Culture in America Festival, which included presenting a concert at the Lincoln Center in New York.
The recording of The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto conducted by Chen won the Gold Record Award in 1989 presented by China Record Company. He was given the 6th China Gold Record Judging Panel Special Award (Conducting) in 2008. In 2002, the record series A Complete Collection of Symphonies by Zhu Jian'er featuring Chen at the baton was released under the Shanghai Music Publishing House label. Two more series, Orchestral Works of Zhu Jian'er and Orchestral Works of Lü Qiming followed in 2006; while a third, Complete Beethoven Symphonies, was released in 2015.
Jiang Kemei (Banhu/Jinghu)
A National Class One Musician and Honorary Concertmaster of the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, Jiang Kemei has collaborated with dozens of orchestras and conductors, like the China Philharmonic Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, China National Traditional Orchestra, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, etc. She has performed in more than 50 countries.
Tang Junqiao (Dizi) (25/10 only)
Tang Junqiao is a professor and supervisor on the doctoral degree programme at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Director of the Chinese Musicians Association, Director and Artistic Director of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Bamboo Flute Ensemble. Tang is the only Chinese music soloist from the Mainland who has been regularly invited to perform bamboo flute concertos with world-renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Bamberger Symphoniker, etc.
Yu Hongmei (Erhu) (25/10 only)
Yu Hongmei is Vice President of the Central Conservatory of Music. She also serves as Vice Chairperson of the Chinese Musicians Association’s Erhu Society, a guest soloist of the China National Traditional Orchestra, and a visiting professor at Bard College Conservatory of Music in the United States. Yu’s recording String Glamour won America’s Indie Award for Best Traditional World Music, making her the first Chinese musician to be accorded this honour.

Gao Bai (Erhu)
A doctoral candidate of the Department of Traditional Instruments at Central Conservatory of Music, Gao Bai is being trained under erhu virtuoso Yu Hongmei. The honours Gao received include the Gold Award in Erhu Solo Youth Group of Wenhua Arts Academy Awards, the top in erhu competition of the 12th Chinese Golden Bell Awards for Music and first place in the Traditional Ensemble category of the Chinese Instrumental Music Television Competition organised by China Media Group in 2019. Gao has given a series of solo recitals in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Taipei, Singapore and more.
