New Oriental Chinese Music Scene is an original music brand created by the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra. The concerts fully embody the artistic characteristics of openness and inclusiveness in Shanghai-style folk music, interpreting both ancient melodies and contemporary masterpieces, engaging in dialogues between Eastern and Western cultures, and blending different genres to convey rich auditory experiences and profound human emotions, presenting an elegant, confident, and contemporary style of Shanghai-style folk music.
In recent years, New Oriental Chinese Music Scene has toured to countries including the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, the US, Russia, Thailand, Israel, and others, at world-class concert halls such as the Barbican Centre, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, the Kennedy Center, and the Saint Petersburg National Capella Concert Hall, evoking resonance and appreciation from audiences with diverse cultural backgrounds. For this performance in Hong Kong, the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra will be honoured to invite the internationally renowned conductor Tang Muhai to conduct, showcasing his passionate and infectious conducting style and demonstrating his mastery.

Shanghai Chinese Orchestra
Founded in 1952, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra (SHCO) is the first large-scale modern Chinese orchestra in China. Being an indispensable part of Chinese music development, SHCO has always been known for its distinctive styles and masterly performances, as well as its many great artists who are revered for their significant contribution to Chinese music, such as Zhang Ziqian, Lu Chunling, Sun Yude, Gu Guanren, Min Huifen, Yu Xunfa, Gong Yi, etc.
In recent years, SHCO has maintained its focus on "Chinese music, contemporary temperament, and international expression", ceaselessly seeking the contemporary value of traditional Chinese music. In the course of integrating Chinese spirits, Chinese values and Chinese undertakings into Chinese music composition, SHCO has created a line of original Shanghai-style Chinese music brands with different styles and themes, including New Oriental Chinese Music Scene, Our Common Homeland, The Bund, Gardenia Blooming, and The Sound of Oriental Wisdom etc. In the future, SHCO will continue with its mission to promote the rejuvenation of Chinese music, to present the new era with a more open, inclusive, and pertinent voice.

Pipa Masterclass with Yu Bing
Yu Bing is a National Class One Musician and pipa principal of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra. Hailing from a family of musicians, Yu Bing possesses consummate technical skills, expresses rich emotions, and has an infectious style. He has toured four European countries, as well as various Russian and American cities with the Orchestra, performing in important venues such as Berliner Philharmonie in Germany, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, USA, and Gnessin Russian Academy of Music Concert Hall in Moscow.

Suona Masterclass with Hu Chenyun
Hu Chenyun is a National Class One Performer and a director of the Suona Professional Committees of the Shanghai Musicians Association and the Chinese Musicians Association. Skilled in a variety of Chinese and Western wind instruments including Suona, Guanzi and saxophone, Hu is one of the most outstanding and active Suona performers in contemporary China. He has been invited to tour and perform in more than 40 countries and regions around the world, leaving his artistic footprint in venues such as China's National Centre for the Performing Arts, Germany's Berliner Philharmonie, America's John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Russia's St. Petersburg State Capella Concert Hall.

Percussion Masterclass with Wang Yinrui
Wang Yinrui is a National Class One Musician, and principal percussionist of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra. He is a member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, director of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society, executive director of the Nationalities Percussion Professional Committee of the Chinese Musicians Association, and deputy director of the Percussion Professional Committee of the Shanghai Musicians Association. Wang Yinrui's agile and carefree style of performance reflects the fusion of solid skills and rich expressivity, embodying elegant personal bearing and charming stage appeal.
