Members of the audience are strongly advised to arrive punctually. Colleen Lee (Curator/Piano)
Since winning the Sixth Prize of the 15th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition, Colleen Lee has performed extensively throughout Asia, Europe and North America in solo recitals and with orchestras such as the Galicia Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra among others.
Born in Hong Kong, Lee started her piano lesson at the age of four. Subsequently she was trained at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) under Eleanor Wong. After obtaining the Bachelor of Music Degree, she was awarded scholarship from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund and the Bernard Van Zuiden Scholarship to further her studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover with Arie Vardi. Lee was the recipient of many international awards besides her success at the Chopin Competition, including First Prize at the 3rd Seiler International Piano Competition in Kitzingen, Germany, the 2003 Dorothy Mackenzie Artist Recognition Award, Third Place and Critic and Audience Prizes at the 15th International Competition for Piano and Orchestra in Cantù, Italy, Prize Winner of the 1st Hong Kong International Piano Competition, the Pro Musicis International Award, Gina Bachauer International Artist Competition Award, Sendai International Music Competition Award, and was Laureate of the 16th Santander International Piano Competition in Spain.
Her discography includes an all Chopin album recorded on the Pleyel piano released by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, and an all Scarlatti Sonata CD by Naxos.
Fu Man-yat (Curator/Painter)
Fu Man-yat is a lover of fine art since his childhood, engages himself in painting and art education. Fu graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with bachelor and master degrees in Music. Fu’s works have been exhibited in more than 20 countries in Europe, America, and Asia. He has also received numerous awards, including the Honorable Mention Award in the International Watercolor Biennale India (2017), the Special Prize in the Poland International Watercolor Competition (2019) and the Silver Award at the Third Asia Pacific Art Biennial Exhibition (2020). Fu currently engages himself in painting and art education. His works center upon everyday scenes of life and people. Through highlighting beauty in the ordinary, he wishes to tell his story, and leave behind his footprints in the passing time.
Aaron Chan (Violin)
Aaron Chan is a Hong Kong-Canadian violinist, who is sought after as a soloist and chamber player around the globe. A two-time Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award recipient, Chan received bachelor’s degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) and Schulich School of Music, McGill University under Stephen Rose and Jinjoo Cho. He then continued at the Shepherd School of Music of Rice University for his master’s degree under the guidance of Paul Kantor. Chan won the concerto competitions at CIM and Rice, and in 2018 won the classical concerto competition and chamber competition with his quartet (Lafontaine Quartet) at McGill. During the 2022/2023 season, he held a fellowship as a resident of the Rebanks Family Fellowship and International Performance Residency Program at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In 2023, Chan won Musicus Society’s Young Artist Audition and was selected to join the roster of Musicus Soloists Hong Kong.
Born in Canada, Chan was raised in Hong Kong. He especially loves playing chamber music, finding total joy in communicating with other musicians through sound alone. He has spent summers at the McGill International String Quartet Academy, ENCORE Chamber Music festival in Cleveland and Verbier Festival’s Soloist and Chamber Music Academy in Switzerland. He is now the assistant Principal Second Violin of Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
Letty Poon* (Cello)
Letty Poon is a Hong Kong native, she is active in chamber music performances, education, and academic research. She studied under Professor Ray Wang and Colin Carr, and has trained with the renowned Emerson String Quartet. Poon’s performance engagements have taken her to the Mainland China, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Italy, France, Spain, and Austria for Pacific Music Festival, Carinthian Festival, Prades Music Festival and Zell an der Pram chamber music festival as such, in addition to her regular concert appearances in Hong Kong.
Poon co-founded the Hong Kong International Cello Association and the Cellistra, a cello ensemble with professional cellists, in 2004 to promote cello music and cello playing in Hong Kong. In 2018, she founded the Pacific Cello Orchestra to provide professional training for young cellists aged 18 or below in the summer holidays. Presently, she serves as the Artistic Director of the Hong Kong International Cello Association and teaches at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Hong Kong Baptist University.
Rhythmie Wong (Piano)
Born and raised in Hong Kong, pianist Rhythmie Wong has given numerous solo recitals in the United States, Europe, and Asia, performing at venues such as the National Concert Hall in Dublin and Carnegie Hall in New York. She has received acclaims for her solo recitals from critics. The German publication Aachener Zeitung commented: "This pianist has a bright future ahead; she is a highly skilled musician with a strong understanding of composers and the structure of their works." Rhythmie has given interviews and performances on platforms such as Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Westdeutschland Rundfunk, Hong Kong Radio, Cambodia TVK, Macau Teledifusao, and Hong Kong Educational Television. As a soloist, she has collaborated with various orchestras. In December 2022, she released her debut album, Evolving Fantasia, which was immediately played and highly praised by the renowned French classical music radio station, France Musique.
In addition to receiving the Münster Steinway Music Award, the Hong Kong "Ten Best Young Artists" award, and the Mackenzie Artist Recognition Award, she has won the Grand Prize at the Karlovac International Piano Competition, as well as two special awards for Best Interpretation of a Croatian Work and the Audience Prize. She is also a champion of the Valletta International Piano Competition and the New York International Artists Piano Competition, among others.
Apart from playing the piano, Rhythmie also composes music for microfilms and explores the different characteristics of instruments. She plays the violin and clarinet and is also a composer. Her piece Narnia Fantasy, for oboe, violin, horn, cello, and piano, was premiered in 2011, while her piano solo piece The End is Not the End, inspired by writer Mitch Albom, was premiered in April 2014, commemorating the victims of the 2014 Boston Marathon.
Due to her outstanding achievements, Wong has received numerous scholarships, including the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship, the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Overseas Scholarship, the New England Conservatory Excellence Award, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund Overseas Scholarship, and the Clavarte Foundation Scholarship. Rhythmie was accepted into the junior program at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts at the age of five. She later earned her Bachelor of Music degree under the guidance of Professor Eleanor Wong. She completed her Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory under Professor Victor Rosenbaum. Additionally, she graduated with the highest honors from the Concert Exam Degree from the University of Music and Dance Cologne in Germany, where she studied under Professor Claudio Martinez-Mehner.
Gary Chan (Video designer)
A Freelance video designer, Gary Chan graduated from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education in Creative Media. He has worked with Shu Ning Presentation Unit, Chung Ying Theatre Company, Cinematic Theatre, Banana Effect, iStage theatre and On & On Theatre Workshop. Chan has been striving to utilise image creation as a medium in theatre productions, and has been involved in video projections in various events and productions as a video designer and content provider.
Chiu Ka-ho (Lighting designer)
Chiu Ka-ho graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree in Theatre and Entertainment Arts, majoring in lighting design. He is now an active lighting designer and programmer in theatre and live performances, especially in dance and music productions.
