Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, along with the Hong Kong local conductor Jeff Leung, will present the concert, “The Four Musical Periods”. In this music journey, the Orchestra will introduce all four western musical periods in chronological order.
Jeff will firstly bring us back to the 17th & the early 18th century, which known as the Baroque Period, to visit Bach, the father of classical music. Air On G String is perhaps one of the most well known music composed by Bach, which is originally the 2nd movement of his Orchestral Suite No. 3. With his Violin Concerto in A Minor (1st Movement) played by the six-year old violinist Evangeline Wong, the youngest member of the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra during their 2017 concert tour, we can experience the delicate and elegance of Baroque music.
The next stop is the Classical Period in the 18th century. We will spend time with the music genius, Mozart. The young local violinist John Lui will perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major (1st Movement) as soloist. Through the simple but beautiful melodies, and the perfectly symmetrical structure, we could understand more about the music in Classical Period.
The music in Romantic Period focuses more on expression and emotion. For the music in the 19th century, the orchestra will tell you a mysterious story about a German king of marksmen deals with the devil to offer his soul through Weber’s overture to Der Freischütz.
Arriving the 20th century, composer Debussy will introduce the aesthetic of the musical “color”, or in musical terms “timbre”, of impressionism music through the 1st Movement En bateau of his Petite Suite. The Orchestra will also perform one of the most famous 20th century music, The Sorcerer's Apprentice composed by Dukas, to conclude the music journey, which travels through 300 years that you cannot miss!
