Canzone Trio
Established in 1987 by three of Hong Kong’s distinguished artists, the Canzone Trio performed extensively both at home and overseas. Tam Ka-kit (piano), Fan Ting (violin) and Ray Wang (cello) have inspired audience with their masterful skills. Their concert appearances have led them across the Mainland, Canada and the USA; performing in festivals such as the Hong Kong Arts Festival and Music in the Summer Air Festival in Shanghai. The New Evening Post hailed “… the three musicians are pleasingly skilful and extremely sensitive, their interpretation is appropriate throughout and musically inspiring”; the Strings Magazine proclaimed “… the musicians displayed their natural musical feeling.”
The Canzone Trio was in the vanguard of music ensembles in Hong Kong. In addition to traditional concert repertoire, they are also avid interpreters of contemporary music. Supporting the development of modern classical literature, the Canzone Trio collaborated with the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong to commission renowned Hong Kong composers Chan Wing-wah for the “Continuity” in 1989 and “Emergence” by Richard Tsang for its Weill Recital Hall at the Carnegie Hall debut in 1993.
Although members of the Canzone Trio parted their ways at the height of their youthful career development, their friendship in addition to their professional successes allowed the Canzone Trio to remain Hong Kong’s only chamber music group that still appreciates its original members till this day. In addition to their success on stage, the members are also devoted teachers who have worked with students at the Royal Northern College of Music, the UK, Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Australia, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Singapore, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and major music conservatories throughout the Mainland.
2017 marked the Canzone Trio’s 30th anniversary. Tam Ka-kit, Fan Ting and Ray Wang once again celebrate their youthful encounter, accomplished musicianship, and lifelong friendship by performing their Reunion Concert Series starting from 2018.
