Indoor Stadia

The 12 500-seat Hong Kong Coliseum and 3 600-seat Queen Elizabeth Stadium are well designed and equipped multi-purpose indoor stadia for staging a range of activities from spectacular entertainment and cultural performances to international sports, celebratory events and conventions.

The coliseum's flexible seating arrangements and excellent facilities are ideal for large-scale events. The year's highlights included concerts by singers A-Yue from Taiwan and Stefanie Sun from Singapore. Performances by local artists included Kelly Chen, Beyond, Sam Hui, Andy Hui, Leo Ku, Sally Yeh with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Adam Cheng, Deanie Ip, Aaron Kwok, Karen Mok, Paula Tsui, Alan Tam, the Cheung Brothers, Tai Chi, Leon Lai, Grasshopper, Joey Yung, Sandy Lam, George Lam, and a musical by Jacky Cheung and a talk show by Michael Hui.

Other significant events were the volleyball tournament 2005 3D-Gold FIVB World Grand Prix Hong Kong, the 14th Eastcolight Super Kung Sheung Cup Basketball Invitation Championship, the 3D-Gold World Hong Kong Luminous Dragon Dance and Lion Dance Championship 2005, the 24th Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony, the 88th Lions Clubs International Convention, the spectacular ice show Hollywood and a variety show that celebrated the 56th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. Altogether, the coliseum hosted 179 performances, which attracted a total audience of 1 639 300.

The Queen Elizabeth Stadium played host to a wide variety of events including the Hong Kong versus Austria Men's Table Tennis Challenge Match, the 14th Eastcolight Super Kung Sheung Cup Basketball Invitation Championship, the Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships, the Hong Kong Annual Badminton Championship Final, a Lecture Series for Youth Leaders by Yao Ming, Astronauts' Dialogue with Students, the Latin Passion Festival: Havana-Mania Carnival! by Vocal Sampling and Chet Lam, Jazz Up featuring the Chick Corea Elektric Band, Sexe Fort by Patricia Kaas of France, a pop concert by local artist Donald Cheung and a talk show by Jan Lamb. A total of 262 performances were staged before a total audience of 381 700.
