As an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, Hong Kong not only excels in the presentation of diverse cultures from around the globe, but is also committed to demonstrating the soft power of China and showcasing the unique charm of Chinese culture. In 2024, the Chinese Culture Festival will be held for the first time by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to enhance the public's appreciation of Chinese culture, and cultivate national identity and cultural confidence.
The inaugural Chinese Culture Festival features a dazzling array of programmes, in particular the performances of the Chinese Opera Festival, a signature event of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Other attractions include outstanding local arts projects recognised by the China National Arts Fund, and a myriad of events in collaboration with arts organisations, such as music, dance and multi-arts stage performances, film shows, exhibitions, talks, meet-the-artists sessions and masterclasses. In addition to local organisations, outstanding arts troupes from different provinces and cities in the Mainland will also be invited to perform in Hong Kong to promote exchanges between different regions or cultural sectors and encourage their integration. Through the Chinese Culture Festival, we strive to encourage cultural creativity and inheritance domestically and promote Chinese culture in the international community.
