Orchestral & Choral Training
Application is now closed.
- Upon a successful application submission, a confirmation email with an application number will be generated by the system for the applicant to check the application result at a later stage.
- Applicants should call the Music Office by 5:30pm on 28 March to confirm their applications are successfully submitted if the application numbers are not received by then.
Audition and Application Results
- Audition date: 1 May (Wednesday; public holiday) [an alternative date will be arranged in the circumstances of inclement weather or under other unforeseeable situations]
- Audition content: Sight-reading/sight-singing and one own-choice piece/ excerpt (not more than 5 minutes for Junior Chinese Orchestra/Junior String Orchestra/Choir; not more than 8 minutes for Chinese Orchestra/Symphonic Band/Symphony Orchestra).
- The own-choice pieces / excerpts have to conform to the stipulated level(s) of the group(s) applied or demonstrate the quality of applicants’ singing voice (for Choir only).
- Applicants must bring along their musical instruments (except zheng, yangqin, double-bass and percussion), bows (for string applicants, including double-bass players), mallets and sticks (for percussion applicants) to audition. Applicants need to arrange their own accompanists if they perform their own-choice pieces with accompaniment.
- Applicants who missed the audition will not be considered.
- Applicants should call the Music Office by 5:30pm on 25 April if they do not receive any notifications for audition. However, applicants who fail to meet the entry requirements will not be invited to audition.
- The Music Office will notify all applicants of the application results by email before 5 June.
- Applicants will not be accepted to more than one training group with the same instrument under normal circumstances.
Notes
- Campers shall observe all rules laid down by the Music Office and the performance venues, otherwise the Music Office reserves the right to terminate their training.
- Camp fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.
- The Music Office reserves the right to change/cancel the training, concert programmes and guest musicians.
- The Music Office shall have the absolute discretion to use any photographs, videos and any other records of the campers for any lawful purposes including archiving, advertising and promotion of the event.

(2) | A copy of marksheet showing the highest qualification/ grade attained for the instrument/ voice is required to be provided during application. Applicants who are unable to provide marksheet(s)/ document(s) of proof should complete and submit the ‘Proof of Applicant's Level of Performance’ . |
(3) | Rehearsal details will be provided upon acceptance of applications. |
(4) | A fee remission scheme is available for local campers with financial difficulties. Applicants should submit a duly completed fee remission application form and provide the Music Office with the relevant documentation (e.g. the relevant valid certificates issued by the Student Finance Office or the Social Welfare Department) for evaluation. Please contact the Music Office Music Centres for details. |
