The Performing Arts Carnival 2023 presents a diverse range of top-notch performing arts programmes by emerging talents from the Schools of Dance, Music, Drama and Chinese Opera of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), and artists from venue partners, local arts groups and district organisations. The Carnival will tour around five performance venues in the New Territories, with the showcases at Yuen Long Theatre in November.

The story revolves around four neighbouring tenants of subdivided units. Under the same roof, they face their own problems in life while searching for the place called "home".

An Excerpt from Inside Out

Created in 2018, Inside Out explores the subtle relationship between the dancers and the barre in ballet training. This is an experiment work that breaks up the traditional form of ballet technique by challenging the traditional use of the barre.

This is a performance of one of the most famous and beloved dances for two, Pas de deux from the ballet Le Corsaire, which was inspired by Lord Byron's poetic work The Corsair.

An Excerpt of Lodging at the inn from The Sword of the Valiant

During the Ming dynasty, a court minister Meng Kui colludes with Japanese pirates in a treacherous plot against his country. Xun Ru wants to borrow Lord Long's family heirloom, a sword with a hidden blade, to assassinate Meng. Lord Long’s son, Jialie will be the assassin. He bids farewell to his secret lover, Xiang Ruyu, a village girl. His elder sister Jiajie fears for his safety and tails him. Jiajie stays at an inn, where she runs into Ruyu's elder brother, Xiang Ling, who is a secret agent investigating traitors. Upon learning of her lover's mission, Ruyu joins Jiajie to hunt down the traitor.

An Excerpt of Mu Guiying Gets a Husband

During the Northern Song Dynasty, Marshall Yang Lulang orders Meng Liang to ask Wulang to help break the battle formation of the enemy, Liao. Wulang urgently needs the magical “Dragon Vanquishing Wood” from the Muke Fortress to make battle axes. Lulang then sends Meng Liang and Jiao Zan to Muke Fortress to get the wood, but the two are defeated by Mu Guiying, daughter of the Fortress Lord. Lulang’s son, Zongbao, leads a scouting squad to the Fortress. He meets Guiying on the way. The two challenge each other to a duel, and Zongbao loses. She falls for his charming look, and proposes marriage. Zongbao will not dare to marry in secret while on expedition, but appreciates Guiying’s sincerity and accepts the proposal. Guiying willingly presents the Dragon Vanquishing Wood and she, together with her husband, manage to break through the Liao army’s formation.

*Programme Arrangements for Workshops

  1. Free admission by ticket with free seating. Limited places available on a first-come-first-served basis.
  2. Tickets will be distributed at the Enquiries Counter of Yuen Long Theatre from 12 noon on the day of the activities.
  3. Each person is allowed up to two tickets.
  4. Tickets will become invalid if the ticket holders fail to show up within 5 minutes after the designated session has begun, and their places will be allocated to other persons waiting at the venue.
  5. In the event of any dispute regarding ticket distribution and seating arrangements, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s decision shall be final and conclusive.
