Twelve-year-old student became the overall winner of design competition

Twelve-year-old Michelle Chiu Chung-yeung, outshone other competitors to become the overall winner as well as the secondary school section winner of the International Arts Carnival (IAC) Graphic Design Competition. Primary six student Wong Yik-man has become the winner of the primary school section.

 
     
 

Overall winner Michelle Chiu's design is unique and original. The simple colour scheme and skilful composition of the poster successfully bring out the theme of the fun-filled carnival. Primary school section winner Wong Yik-man's imaginative design merges Chinese and Western culture. Through skilful use of colours, the work is refreshing and ingenious.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the competition has attracted a total of 1230 entries, including 696 entries from the primary section and 534 entries from the secondary section.

The adjudication panel for the competition includes Executive Committee Member of the Hong Kong Designers Association Mr Paul Lam; Principal Lecturer, School of Early Childhood Education of the Hong Kong Institute of Education Dr Wong Wai-yum, Veronica; Art Director of Asia One Multimedia Limited Mr Andre Shum; and Senior Manager (Festivals) Ms Elaine Yeung of the LCSD.

The winners, the first runners-up, second runners-up and outstanding entries in the two sections will each be awarded a trophy and book voucher. Results of the IAC Graphic Design Competition are as follows:

Overall Winner: Michelle Chiu Chung-yeung

Secondary School Section:
Winner: Michelle Chiu Chung-yeung, Logos Academy
First Runner-up: Stephanie Dorothy Yu, Diocesan Girls' School
Second Runner-up: Chan Lok-ying, Canossa College

Outstanding Entries:
1. Chan Suet-chung, Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School
2. Chan Yee-tim, Y.O.T. Chan Wong Suk Fong Memorial Secondary School
3. Chiu On-ki, Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School
4. Karen Cheng, Good Hope School
5. Chloe Mak, Good Hope School

Primary School Section:
Winner: Wong Yik-man, The Endeavourers Leung Lee Sau Yu Memorial Primary School (PM)
First Runner-up: Yue Ching-nam, Alliance Primary School, Kowloon Tong
Second Runner-up: Wong Yuen-chi, St. Mary's Canossian School

All winning designs, together with other selected entries can be browsed in the IAC web site at www.hkiac.gov.hk They will also be displayed in Hong Kong Cultural Centre Foyer and Hong Kong City Hall Low Block Exhibition Hall during the festival period. Details are as follows:
