DanceSport ‧ Cheuk Chun Hei, Sung Wing Tung
In the dance room, Cheuk Chun Hei and Sung Wing Tung are dancing with the powerful music. They are only 11 and 10 years old respectively, but from the elegant dancing, flowing movements and the blazing emotions outpouring from their focused eyes, you can see that they have profound attainments in Latin dance which emphasizes in both arts and skills. What coincident connected them together to be dancing partners? How were they trained to gain dancing skills above their contemporaries? Let’s start from their initial contacts with Dance Sport.
Mutual understanding and close cooperation
Actually they got into contact with Dance Sport quite early: Chun Hei joined the school dance team as early as his primary one, while Wing Tung started to learn Latin dance from Chun Hei’s instructor at her primary two. Wing Tung said: “I used to be shy before, my father hoped that I can enhance physical fitness and gain confidence by dancing.” At the beginning she was not confident in learning Latin dance, not to mention participating in competitions. However, she gradually fell in love with this dynamic dance very soon, so she made more efforts in practicing, and finally she was appreciated by the instructor and was arranged to partner with Chun Hei.

However, as they attended different schools, they could not produce the desired chemical reaction within a short period of time and made unsatisfactory results at the first competition. Fortunately, as they got along with each other longer, they had a better understanding of each other, they gradually established teamwork. More importantly, they share a clear and same objective – to dance better at each competition. Chun Hei said: “We have never quarreled during practice, nor have we blamed each other for losing. Instead, we discuss our performance after the competition, hoping that we could dance better next time.” It is this mutual understanding and the common determination in achieving victory that connected these two people together, and stipulated them to make progress and grow to become closely cooperating partners.
