“Sport for All Day 2015” Stay Active, Stay Healthy

“Sport for All Day 2015” will be held on 2nd August, 2015 (Sunday) with “Fitness for health” as its theme, to promote easy-to-learn physical activities, as well as to encourage everyone to meld the habit of simple exercise into their daily life. This year, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has put emphasis on encouraging those with disabilities to pursue a healthy lifestyle by participating in sports activities.

Free use of leisure facilities

Since 2009, LCSD has held “Sport for All Day” annually to encourage citizens to actively participate in sports activities and foster in them a healthy habit of constant exercise. In 2010, it began to commence the free use of various fee-charging facilities to let the citizens to explore their interest in different sports. These facilities include:

BookingBooking for free use of the leisure facilities and craft at water sports centres can be made at all Leisure Link booking counters at LCSD venues (except for self-service kiosks) from 9am, 26th July (Sunday) onward. Each person can only book one free session irrespective of the leisure facility type. Booking is on a first-come, first-served basis. No prior booking is required for public swimming pools. Citizens only have to line up at the pool entrances for free admission on a first-come, first-served basis on the day.

Apart from free use of leisure facilities, citizens can also join free recreation programmes held at designated sports centres in the 18 districts of Hong Kong, including health talks and exercise demonstrations, fitness corner activities, programmes for persons with disabilities, parent-child sports programmes, and sports participation programmes. Starting from 26th July (Monday) 8:30am, citizens can register at LCSD District Leisure Services Offices or designated venues on a first-come, first-served basis. Each person can collect up to four participation cards in each registration.

Furthermore, “Sport for All Day 2015” also includes activities for the disabled and able-bodied to encourage disabled persons to do more exercise. LCSD will organize activities tailored for disabled persons at certain venues, to teach them more exercise knowledge, and encourage them to live a healthy life.

Stay active, stay healthy

Through “Sport for All Day”, and its provision of different kinds of sports programmes, LCSD strives to encourage the public, particularly the less active middle-aged and working population, to take part in moderate physical activities for at least 30 minutes each day and to persevere with such practice in their daily lives.
