Sport For All Day 2019

To promote the concept of “Sport For All” and encourage the public to exercise more, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold the Sport For All Day on 4 August (Sunday) to provide an array of sports and recreation programmes and recreational facilities for free participation or use by the public. The slogan will remain as “Stay Active, Healthy and Happy!” this year to encourage people of all ages and abilities to engage in regular sports and physical activities and promote the benefits of exercise for the body and mind.

Organising special events to attract the public
The LCSD will organise a series of sports and recreation programmes at designated sports venues across 18 districts from 2pm to 6pm on that day. These programmes include health talks, sport demonstrations, fitness corners, parent-child activities, play-in sessions for sports, as well as sports demonstrations and play-in sessions for persons with disabilities. With wushu as the focal sport this year, the public will be able to learn some basic wushu techniques and train their bodies during the activities. Members of the public can enrol in the programmes or collect programme coupons on a first-come-first-served basis at LCSD’s District Leisure Services Offices organising the programmes/designated venues in the districts from 8:30 am on 15 July (Monday).

Opening up venues for free use to encourage participation
In addition to providing sports and recreation programmes for the public for free, the LCSD will also open a number of indoor and outdoor sports venues and recreational facilities for free use by individuals on the event day. The venues and facilities include badminton courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, squash courts, table tennis tables, fitness rooms, activities rooms, dance rooms, bowling greens, archery ranges, golf facilities, public swimming pools and crafts of water sports centres. Those who are interested can make their bookings at the Leisure Link booking counters at all LCSD venues (excluding self-service kiosks) from 9 am on 28 July (Sunday). (Prior booking is not required for use of public swimming pools. Members of the public may line up at the entrance before a session starts. Free admission is offered on a first-come-first-served basis.)

Promoting regular exercise in the community
To encourage people from all sectors of the community to participate in the Sport For All Day, the LCSD has invited various organisations to promote the concept of “Sport For All” when they organise all sorts of events. For example, wushu demonstrations and play-in sessions were included in the Summer Play-in 2019 organised by the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Kowloon Centre on 1 May in response to the call to promote the objective of the Sport For All Day. Participants were not only able to enjoy the fantastic performances, but also experience the fun of wushu and the joy of exercise.
