A New Approach to Exercise and Fitness

Online Interactive Sports Training Programmes

While staying at home amid the epidemic, one may, as usual, learn and practise physical activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  The LCSD has launched the new “Online Interactive Sports Training Programmes” (the Programmes) covering eight different physical activities, namely aerobic dance, fitness exercise, body-mind stretch, parent-child fitness, tai chi, fitness exercise for children, fitness yoga and hip hop dance.  Members of the public are welcome to join.

The Programmes focus on facilitating interaction between participants and tutors to enhance the former’s interest, while adding fun to the activities therein.  What the participants need to do is just participate in real-time online courses at home with use of their computers/electronic devices such as tablets or mobile phones via the online conferencing software “Zoom” with a connection to the wireless or broadband internet network.

Prospective participants may enrol in the Programmes via the Leisure Link Internet Booking Service (leisurelink.lcsd.gov.hk), each at a registration fee of $20, and the places available will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Programmes, grouped under the LCSD Edutainment Channel, aim to promote culture, recreation and sports to members of the public by means of a one-stop online platform, featuring the “101 Academy” series to give a systematic introduction to the relevant topics starting from basic concepts, allowing them access to the latest information on leisure and culture at their comfy home anytime.

An Urban Oasis

Che Kung Temple Sports Centre

10 Sha Tin Tau Road

Che Kung Temple Sports Centre, commissioned last September, is the seventh sports centre in Sha Tin District.  Located at 10 Sha Tin Tau Road, it is easily accessible from the nearby MTR Che Kung Temple Station and Chun Shek Bus Terminus.  The Centre is well-equipped with a range of leisure and sports facilities, including a multi-use main arena convertible into two basketball courts, two volleyball courts or eight badminton courts; a dance room; an activity room; a table tennis room; a fitness room; and a children's play room.

Featuring a unique architectural design and a fair-faced concrete façade, the Centre adopts natural lighting and maximises ventilation by making the best of spaces with ingenuity.  No air-conditioning is installed for all open access to reduce electricity consumption.

The Centre has emerged as a neighbourhood park since its commissioning, as residents in the community may relax in its gardens with the green landscaping.  Those wishing to know more about the Centre’s opening hours and booking arrangements may visit the LCSD’s website.

For those interested in the design concept of the Centre, the Development Bureau has released a video clip on this topic via its YouTube channel, which may allow viewers to take an online tour with the architects of the Architectural Services Department to learn more about the project encapsulating the various ideas about sports, recreation, greening and environmental protection.
