The 8th Hong Kong Games (HKG)
Vitality Run

As those paying attention to the sports activities organised by the LCSD may be aware, the district athlete selection process for the 8th HKG commenced last year. Upon months of great effort, athletes representing the 18 districts will soon be selected to compete in eight sports, namely athletics, badminton, basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball, during the HKG held in April and May.

In addition to key inter-district sports competitions, the HKG will hold a range of community activities for public participation, including a voting activity titled "My Favourite Sporty District", a guessing game on the "8th Hong Kong Games Overall Champion", as well as the family-friendly “Vitality Run”.

The “Vitality Run” has been well received by members of the public since its start in 2015. The starting point of the Run is at Yuen Wo Road, opposite the Shatin Sports Ground, and its finishing point is at the Shatin Sports Ground. The event is held not as a race, but with the aim of encouraging participants to challenge themselves and promoting an active and sporty lifestyle. Participants just need to enjoy the fun of running while cheering for athletes who are about to participate in the inter-district sports competitions during the HKG. In the previous event, over 5 000 citizens participated in the Vitality Run and joined district athletes in welcoming the arrival of the HKG. To dovetail with the anti-epidemic measures introduced by the Government, the Organiser will reduce the number of participants in this event. That said, the fun of participating in events will be the same. In addition to a physical run like “Vitality Run”, we will host a "Virtual Run" event, which will be categorised into two groups: 3km Group and 10km Group. Participants may join as individuals or in groups. Members of the public can choose their routes in light of individual circumstances, supporting the HKG in a different physical manner.

For this year, the "Vitality Run" will be held on 6 March (Sunday) and will soon be open to enrolment. The event prospectus and enrolment forms may be downloaded from the official website of the 8th Hong Kong Games at http://www.hongkonggames.hk. Alternatively, members of the public may obtain them at the District Leisure Services Offices, recreation and sports venues with access to Leisure Link services, as well as district sports grounds under the LCSD. The "Virtual Run" event will be held from 7 to 14 March, with registrations starting from mid-February. Members of the public may enrol online via the official website of the 8th Hong Kong Games. All are welcome to join. Please feel free to visit the website for further details about the inter-district sports competition and other community events.

HKG’s Mascot
Cheering Larry Four-Frame Comic

Since the Cheering Larry was voted online by members of the public the HKG’s mascot and promotional ambassador, it has been actively promoting the HKG and working hard to spread the message of taking regular exercises throughout the city.

Though a bit chubby and not athletically gifted, the Cheering Larry is by no means discouraged.  He just tries his utmost to be a cheerleader, encouraging our athletes. The Organiser will from time to time produce four-frame-comics on the Cheering Larry, in a bid to rally public support for the HKG and call on members of the public to actively participate in the 8th HKG. The latest four-frame comics on the Cheering Larry, including “Episode - Energisation” and “Episode - Athlete Selection”, have been uploaded onto the feature webpage on the mascot (http://www.hongkonggames.hk/hkg2021/tc/content/aboutHkg/mascot.html), to be followed by other episodes. So do remember to stay tuned.

In addition, the above webpage features the “WhatsApp Sticker Download Area", with the stickers designed in a lovely manner therein. All are welcome to download the stickers for everyday use in WhatsApp messages.
