Common Tailorbird

Orthotomus sutorius

Common Tailorbird Characteristics:
About 12 cm long (excluding elongated male tail). Rufous forecrown and long tail (often cocked) are its distinctive features. Juvenile lacks rufous crown.


Distribution:
Resident. Common and widespread. Often seen in woodland and major urban parks.

Habits:
Usually keeps to undergrowth but is not shy. The bird is noisy with a variety of call notes. Breeding season from April to August. Constructs unique nest with one or two leaves stitched together to form a firm support for the small round nest.
