Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Axel Flierl studied sacred music, concert organ and concert organ improvisation with Edgar Krapp and Wolfgang Hörlin at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, as well as with Thierry Escaich and Vincent Warnier at Saint-Étienne-du-Mont in Paris, France from 2004 to 2006, where he studied the complete organ works by Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986).

He was granted several renowned scholarships by the Bavarian Ministry of Education and the Arts and the Franco-German High Council for Cultural Affairs. His studies included time as a visiting student at the “Cité Internationale des Arts” and the “Cité Internationale Universitaire” in Paris.

In 2006, Flierl was assigned the post of titular organist and conductor at St. Peter’s Basilica in Dillingen an der Donau (Bavaria/Germany), where in 2007 he initiated the international annual organ festival Dillinger Basilikakonzerte as its founder and artistic director. He also conducted several oratorios as Bach’s Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation mass and Haydn’s Paukenmesse as well as Mendelssohn’s Elijah. As an international organ soloist, Flierl has performed and given masterclasses in Australia, South Africa, Uruguay, Russia, Iceland, Israel, Palestine as well as appearances at the renowned festivals and cathedrals in Europe. He made an excellent name for himself through TV, radio and CD recordings, in addition to numerous music publications.

Free tickets available at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Enquiries Counter (9am-9pm daily) from 8 May onwards. Each patron may get a maximum of 4 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Audiences aged 6 and above are welcome. Programme lasts around 40 minutes without intermission.
