Ronald Lu and Partners, the award-winning architectural designer of the Ko Shan Theatre New Wing in 2014, was invited by the Architectural Services Department to undertake the interior design for the Centre.
The design concept is to represent the traditional operatic art through modern technology, creating interest by engaging visitors in an interactive way through flexible use of the multi-purpose space. The Centre’s interior is mainly built with bamboo, the material traditionally used for temporary theatres for Cantonese opera. The bamboo walls subtly engages in a visual dialogue with the window lattices of the New Wing foyer, fully displaying modern Chinese architectural characteristics in a tranquil, soothing environment.
What is more, with the support of multimedia designer Sengital Limited, various exhibition zones are furnished with the latest audio-visual equipment, adding a high-tech touch.
