To let visitors learn what it feels like to stand on a Cantonese opera stage, the Centre has created a Stage Set Zone, with four professional projectors and advanced technology recreating stage set details in three-dimensional imaging. Regarding stage effects, Cantonese opera artists emphasise abstract stylised movements to express themselves on stage. The traditional “One Table Two Chairs” when placed in different ways, may denote different objects, such as a mountain range, a bridge or a fortress. The artists’ versatility in transforming limited resources into infinite space is there for all to see. As a formality, the first evening of any Cantonese opera production starts off with a “ritual play” entitled Prime Minister of Six States, a showpiece of elaborate stagecraft and stunts with a parade of characters. This zone features a high-definition 4K all-new video of the play created with “image synthesis” technology. With opera maestro Sun Kim Long as Artistic Director, these 12 minutes of highlights from a two-hour performance offer an eye-popping experience. |
