BASSOON The bassoon is the bass of the double-reed woodwind family, and its double reed is fitted onto a curved metal mouthpiece. It serves most often as the bass in the orchestra, but is also capable of producing witty and comical effects. It has a wide range that spans over 3 octaves and tone colors that are widely varied and expressive.
