2025 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp

The Hong Kong Youth Music Camp is a significant annual summer event organised by the Music Office. Over 400 young musicians will participate in residential/ non-residential music camp to receive coaching by acclaimed maestros from overseas and the Mainland, culminating in spectacular public performances to exhibit the prosperous fruit of their training.

 

Residential campers may also enjoy a diverse range of recreational facilities (snooker, archery, roller skating, VR simulation, and more) on the campsite.

Application: 3-28 March

  • Online application
  • Upon a successful application submission, a confirmation email with an application number will be generated by the system for the applicant to check the application result at a later stage.
  • Applicants should call the Music Office by 5:30pm on 31 March to confirm their applications are successfully submitted if the application numbers are not received by then.

 

Audition and Application Results

  • Audition date:
    • Western winds and Western percussion: 26 April (Saturday)
    • Others: 1 May (Thursday; public holiday)
    An alternative date will be arranged in the circumstances of inclement weather or under other unforeseeable situations.
  • Audition content:
    • sight-reading/ sight-singing;
    • one own-choice piece/ excerpt (not more than 5 minutes for Children’s Choir/ Junior Chinese Orchestra/ Junior String Orchestra/ Junior Symphonic Band; not more than 8 minutes for Chinese Orchestra/ Symphony Orchestra); and
    • scales and arpeggois (applicable to Western strings only)
  • The own-choice pieces/ excerpts have to conform to the stipulated level(s) of the group(s) applied or demonstrate vocal techniques of applicants (for Children’s Choir only).
  • Applicants must bring along their musical instruments (except zheng, yangqin, double-bass and percussion), bows (for string applicants, including double-bass players), mallets and sticks (for percussion applicants) to audition. Applicants need to arrange their own accompanists if they perform their own-choice pieces with accompaniment.
  • Applicants who missed the audition will not be considered.
  • Applicants should call the Music Office by 5:30pm on 15 April if they do not receive any notifications for audition. However, applicants who fail to meet the entry requirements will not be invited to audition.
  • The Music Office will notify all applicants of the application results by email before 1 June.
  • Applicants will not be accepted to more than one training group with the same instrument under normal circumstances.

 

Notes

  • Campers shall observe all rules laid down by the Music Office and the performance venues, otherwise the Music Office reserves the right to terminate their training.
  • Camp fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • The Music Office reserves the right to change/ cancel the training, concert programmes and guest musicians.
  • The Music Office shall have the absolute discretion to use any photographs, videos and any other records of the campers for any lawful purposes including archiving, advertising and promotion of the event.

Local Applicants

  • Campers are required to join the pre-camp rehearsals to be held at the Music Office Music Centres within the week before the start of training. Absentees from the pre-camp rehearsals must seek prior approval from the Music Office.
  • Campers of Camp A must reside in the camp. Group meals will be provided in the campsite cafeteria. Application for temporary leave will be granted at the sole discretion of the Music Office in advance.
  • Campers of Camp B must arrange their meals and daily transportation to and from the Music Office Music Centres during the training period.

Non-local Applicants

  • Non-Hong Kong Identity Card holders
  • Submit a letter of recommendation issued by the school/ music organisation abroad that the applicant has an affiliation with.
  • Provide an audition video link in the online application system by 15 April if the non-local applicant cannot attend the audition in Hong Kong. For details, please read the “Guidance Notes of Audition Video Submission for Non-local Applicants”.
  • Non-local campers of Camp A are responsible for their visa, passage, and accommodation before and after the Camp. They are also required to take out a medical and accidental insurance policy for their own protection. Campers of Camp A must reside in the camp and join training and all designated activities arranged by the Music Office. Application for temporary leave is granted at the sole discretion of the Music Office in advance. In the event of any unforeseen circumstances such as typhoon, which causes the closure of the campsite, alternative off-camp accommodation will be provided by the Music Office.
  • Non-local campers of Camp B are responsible for their visa, passage, accommodation, meals and daily transportation to and from the respective Music Office Music Centres during their stay in Hong Kong. They are also required to take out a medical and accidental insurance policy for their own protection.
