The 1st National Youth Games (NYG) will be held from 18 to 27 October in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, China this year. To mark the occasion, the NYG Organising Committee held a torch kindled ceremony in Fuzhou on 10 July and adopted a new mode of virtual torch relay through 59 participating cities nationwide by NYG mascot “Rongrong”.
The virtual torch relay arrived in Hong Kong today (August 12). As a way to receive the virtual torch, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has set up a dedicated web page to disseminate messages of the virtual torch relay. (http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/tc/nygames/2015/).
The virtual relay has been conducted in three separate routes, namely the western, northern and southern routes, in which Hong Kong is one of the torch relay cities of the southern route. The torch relay will end its virtual journey when it returns to Fuzhou on 11 October. The NYG, formerly known as National Intercity Games, is the largest national multi-sports event organised by the General Administration of Sport of China this year. Hong Kong will send more than 200 athletes to take part in a maximum of 21 competition events at the Games.
