The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, will depart for Fuzhou on Saturday afternoon (October 17) to attend the launch ceremony of the 1st National Youth Games (NYG) and cheer for the Hong Kong team. The National Youth Games is a comprehensive nationwide sports gala based on the original National Cities Games, which was held seven times at four-yearly intervals to connect with the Youth Olympic Games.
During his stay in Fuzhou, Mr Lau will watch events in which Hong Kong athletes are participating and meet Hong Kong team members. Hong Kong has sent 214 athletes to participate in 20 events. Some of the NYG events have already finished, with Hong Kong cyclist Leung Ka-yu seizing a gold medal in the men's individual road race event and a silver medal in the men's cycling track-omnium event.
During his stay in Fuzhou, Mr Lau will also visit Quanzhou for some cultural interaction on October 19. He will return to Hong Kong in the evening on October 20 (Tuesday).
