Introduction

Organised by the General Administration of Sport of China and undertaken by the People’s Government of Shanxi Province, the 2nd National Youth Games (2nd NYG) will be held from 8 to 18 August 2019 in Taiyuan City of Shanxi Province.

The National Youth Games is formerly known as the National Intercity Games. With the approval of the General Office of the State Council, the 8th National Intercity Games was officially renamed as the 1st National Youth Games in November 2013 to align with the Youth Olympic Games. First held in 1988, the National Intercity Games was a national multi-sports event took place every four years, aimed at identifying and training sports talents, and promoting sports development of cities. Unlike the National Games, all of the participating units of the National Intercity Games were cities.

Events

There are a total of 49 competition events in the 2nd NYG, including:

Summer Sports: Shooting, Archery, Cycling, Fencing, Modern Pentathlon, Triathlon, Equestrian, Sailing (Sailing and Windsurfing), Rowing, Canoeing (Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom), Weightlifting, Wrestling, Judo, Boxing, Taekwondo, Athletics, Swimming (Swimming, Diving, Artistic Swimming and Water Polo), Gymnastics (Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline and Rhythmic Gymnastics), Handball, Hockey, Football, Basketball, Volleyball (Volleyball and Beach Volleyball), Table Tennis, Badminton, Tennis, Rugby, Golf, Surfing, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing, Baseball/Softball (Baseball and Softball), Karatedo, Wushu (Taolu and Sanda), Dragon Boating, Chinese-style Wrestling and DanceSport. A total of 37 competition events.

Winter Sports: Skating (Short Track Speed Skating, Speed Skating and Figure Skating), Skiing (Cross Country Skiing, Alpine Skiing, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Freestyle skiing and Snowboard), Curling, Ice Hockey, Biathlon. A total of 5 competition events.

All-Round Sports: Decathlon, Ball Games & Decathlon All-Round, Roller Sport & Speed Skating All-Round, Roller Sport & Cross Country Skiing All-Round, Ice Hockey & Hockey Inline All-Round, Curling & Land Curling All-Round and Curling & Bocce Ball All-Round. A total of 7 competition events.
