Swimming is one of the most popular summer pastimes in Hong Kong. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) takes an active role in the provision and management of various public swimming facilities for all members of the public. There are a total of 42 public beaches and 45 public swimming pools under the management of the LCSD. Lifeguard services are provided at 39 of the public beaches and at all public swimming pools. Shark prevention nets are installed at all public beaches provided with lifeguard services. However, swimmers still need to take heed of water safety advice to avoid accidents.
