Arts managers of the department are sent to international conferences and festivals to keep abreast of developments in the arts, to foster exchanges with international counterparts and to scout quality overseas programmes for presentation in Hong Kong.

Exchanges with the Mainland and Macau

Reciprocal visits were arranged between the department's key personnel and delegations from Mainland and Macau cultural bodies to enhance relationships, improve co-operation and extend networking. As part of this programme, the department arranged a two-week study visit in mid-2004 for arts administrators from the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture.

Also during the year, other cultural officials from the Mainland and Macau included visits to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre as part of their itinerary. Among the visitors were a 17-member official delegation from Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture in February; a representative from the Macau Cultural Centre in April; and three representatives from the Shanghai East Asia Sports & Recreation Centre in September.
