 “Let’s Dance”

Outreach Dance Demonstrations and Play-in Sessions

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is organising Let’s Dance, an outreach programme of dance demonstrations and play-in sessions, from February to July 2017 to encourage wider participation in sports. The programme is organised in collaboration with community organisations. Schools, property management companies, non-government organisations and residents’ clubhouses are encouraged to organise dance activities for students, parents, residents, members or people living in their neighbourhood and arrange venues for the activities, while the LCSD will provide instructors and technical support for free. By tapping into community resources, Let’s Dance aims at encouraging people to exercise with their neighbours and develop the habit of regular exercise for all-round well-being through a variety of dance activities in the community. For details, please contact the Community Sports Club Unit of the LCSD during office hours at 26018815.

Promoting sports in a variety of ways

To lead a healthy life, we need to do a lot of exercises. The LCSD has been promoting “Sport for all” in the community. It organises a Sport for All Day and provides different sports and training classes for people of different backgrounds and ages. The LCSD also provides funding to the 18 districts to organise sports training classes with local characteristics. This allows citizens to learn various sports and develop habits that are good for the body and mind. These district sports activities with local characteristics include indoor lawn bowls (the Southern District), air-gun shooting (Kwai Tsing), canoe polo (Kwun Tong) and sports climbing (Yau Tsim Mong). Essential sports safety tips

To improve your physical fitness by exercise, you need to exercise regularly. You also need to be careful. Pay special attention to the following points.

  1. Pay attention to your physical condition
Before starting to exercise, you should choose the appropriate exercise based on your physical condition and ability. You should do it step by step according to your ability and you should not be hasty. Start with a realistic goal, and then gradually increase the difficulty, so that your body has sufficient time to adapt and the risk of injury is reduced.

When you exercise, you should pay attention to changes in your physical condition. You should take a break if you are tired and only continue to exercise after restoring your energy. You should drink enough water to avoid dehydration. If you have an abnormal heartbeat, have problem breathing or do not feel well in other ways, you need to get appropriate medical attention or receive emergency treatment.

  2. Pay attention to environmental factors
You should exercise in a safe and appropriate environment and pay attention to weather changes. For example, in summer, you should take precautions against heat stroke. In winter, you should pay attention to keep warm, to reduce the adverse effects of the environment.

  3. Adequate preparation and what to do after exercise
Before exercising, you should be familiar with the correct posture. A right amount of warm-up exercises should be done, so that your muscles are relaxed and supple. This can reduce the chance of injury. After exercising, you should do stretching exercises. Exercise should be supplemented with a balanced diet and adequate rest.

  4. Wear suitable clothing
You should wear clothes and sports shoes and use protective equipment appropriate for the sport. For example, when you ride a bicycle you should wear a helmet to avoid injury.

Regardless of the exercise you have chosen, you must be prepared for it, have basic understanding of it, do it according to your ability and be persistent. Then your exercise habit may be considered good.
