Sports Hero

Coach Hung Hin Chun, Vice Chairman of NK Sports

Like most of the coaches who teach sports in Hong Kong, Coach Hung’s journey to become a badminton coach started with a part-time job.  He believed that badminton could train physical fitness, promote health, and help players build friendship with others who shared the same hobby while playing badminton.

Persevering when the road ahead was uncertain

Coach Hung started working right after he turned adult.  During his time as a part-time coach, he loved to study ways to improve training efficiency.  He realised that badminton could make athletes more thoughtful and broaden their horizons. As a result, he decided to become a full-time coach even though he was unsure of his prospects.

He recalled there was a lack of venues and funding when he established NK Sports, and his family was not optimistic about his job.  With his enthusiasm, he continued to study training programmes and improve his teaching skills.  He earned his family’s recognition eventually.  He said that it took a lot of energy and time to become a member of the Hong Kong Badminton Association, establish the community sports club, organise a coaching team, recruit students, develop training plans, and take care of players and their families.  However, he believed that his students could improve their conduct through training, and all the hard work would be worthwhile if he could make contributions to society in this way.  He believed in helping people help themselves, and he was determined to teach badminton to young generations.

Having faith and making good use of resources

“Anything is possible as long as a person has faith” was Chairman Hung’s motto.  He believed that it was crucial to help the youth and children establish their beliefs. Therefore, he promoted badminton by teaching his students about the struggles of different famous badminton stars to stimulate their interests, and encouraging them to work hard to change their lives.  In terms of teaching, he is committed to improving players’ abilities to formulate strategies, solve problems and cultivate a fearless attitude toward challenges.  As for publicity, he has introduced NK Sports in media interviews, online teaching, and school ambassador promotion activities.  In addition, to organise training courses actively, he also recommends players to participate in local and overseas competitions according to their performance level.

Coach Hung pointed out that finding a regular training venue for the team was crucial for uniting players and strengthening training.  Therefore, he expressed his gratitude to the LCSD for providing venues and to the Hong Kong Badminton Association for their support.  Furthermore, the LCSD organises management courses to train talents for community sports clubs while helping sports clubs promote sports activities and disseminate information in the community.  Last of all, he hoped that local badminton players could gain professional recognition and support, so that they could absorb resources; discover and nurture more outstanding young athletes; gain the opportunity to communicate with players from all over the world; broaden their horizons; and create a bright future for themselves.
