Background

The need to build the Garden stemmed from the former LDC's Argyle Street/Shanghai Street redevelopment project, which was aimed at improving the environment in the district. The development entailed the demolition of the bird stalls in Hong Lok Street, also known as Bird Street, famous for its proliferation of stalls selling pet birds. Realizing the enormous attraction of Bird Street to bird fanciers and tourists alike, it was decided to build the Garden in Yuen Po Street to preserve the characteristics and spirit of Bird Street. In addition to the leisure facilities of a garden, 70 bird stalls are provided in the Garden for bird traders to continue their business. Background
