The department administers a Subsidy Scheme to
help sports associations organise events, training programmes and
competitions to foster the Sport-for-All concept and to provide enjoyment
for spectators. In 2002, the Department spent $40 million subsidising
6,217 sports programmes attracting more than 590,000 participants.

such as the Hong Kong Marathon 2002, the 2002 FIVB World Grand
Prix, the Hong Kong Ladies Challenge, the 4th Asia Pacific
Water Polo Invitation Tournament and the 4th HKSAR International
