Introduction

Positioned as Hong Kong’s flagship performance venue for arts technology, the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC) aspires to present programmes with innovative uses of technology with a hope to bring unprecedented experiences to audiences in Hong Kong.

To fuel the development of arts technology (Arts Tech) in Hong Kong, the EKCC also dedicates to support work-in-progress and experimental creations that are with an aim to be developed into full-length programmes.

Formats of Collaboration

The EKCC’s support to artists and performing companies may take the form of "Presentation by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department", in which case the EKCC offers a fee to the artists and retains all box office proceeds. Collaboration may take the form of one-off presentation, commissioning of new works or presenting a series of performances over a longer period of time, depending on the programmes proposed by the artists as well as their long-term planning and needs.

Support may also take the form of "Programme Sponsorship", in which case the EKCC provides non-profit-making arts organisations with the free use of venue, ticketing services and assistance with publicity. All production costs will be borne by the sponsored organisations, who will retain all ticket proceeds.

Submission of Proposals

East Kowloon Cultural Centre 02

The EKCC welcomes proposals for Arts Tech programmes. There is no fixed format or schedule for submission of programme proposals. Artists may approach the EKCC directly, or through an artist agent. All proposals submitted will be equally considered. Generally speaking, a proposal should include the biography/background of the artist/group, reviews and recordings (audio/visual) of past proposed performances, programme details, proposed date and facility, and the proposed fee with a breakdown of costs.

For programmes by visiting artists, proposals should preferably be submitted 18-24 months in advance. For local programmes, proposals should preferably be submitted 12-18 months ahead. It would be difficult to consider proposals with less than 6 months' notice. After receiving complete details, it would normally take about 3 months to process. Proposals with insufficient information will take a longer time to clarify and process.

Selection of Programmes

All programme proposals are assessed in details according to the criteria that include the artistic and professional merits of the programme, artists and production personnel concerned, the convergence of arts and technology, the overall programme arrangements, financial implications, technical viability and marketing consideration of the proposed programme.

Assessment of programme proposals is made at the Programme Meetings of the East Kowloon Cultural Centre and recommendation will be submitted to the Art Form Sub-committee for comments.
