Opening Concert
The Opening Concert will be staged in Kwun Tong District to introduce Dunhuang music to the teenagers and to arouse their interest in the ancient musical instruments. Ancient pieces are rearranged to create the picture of Dunhuang music to the audience for appreciation of the beauty of Chinese traditional music.
Ancient Musical Instrument Class
Training classes of ancient musical instruments for Dunhuang music, including percussion, xun, konghou, ruan and etc, will be organised for the teenagers in the district. Under the guidance of professional tutors, participants will learn to play imitations of the unique ancient musical instruments. Participants who perform outstandingly will be given chance to join the Finale Concert to showcase their achievements to the community.
Educational Matinee
Speakers will introduce Chinese culture, history, arts and moral concept to the audience through the philosophical stories behind the murals in Mogao Grottoes in the educational matinees during which the ancient instruments in Dunhuang will be introduced as well. The matinees provide opportunity for the public to better understand the Dunhuang culture which facilitates their appreciation of the other Dunhung music performances of the programme.
Docent Introduction (Entry Level) and Training Course
In Docent Introduction (Entry Level) and Training Course, the guest speakers will introduce Dunhuang culture, mural arts, humanity and provide docent training to the participants. Selected participants will have the chance to act as the docents of the mural exhibition during the Gaudeamus Dunhuang Week.
Gaudeamus Dunhuang Week Arts Festival
Gaudeamus Dunhuang Week Arts Festival will be held in the last week of the programme. It aims at promoting Chinese culture and arts through a series of non-traditional, diversified and community-based activities including music concerts, carnival day, mural exhibition, docent introduction, public lecture, creative arts competition and etc, bringing a comprehensive experience on Dunhuang culture to the residents in Kwun Tong District.
