We all have the responsibility to protect the environment. Individuals can practise green living in their daily lives, whereas organisations can promote environmental protection when they organise activities. The Green Outdoor Event Commendation Scheme encourages organisations to adopt environmentally friendly measures when organising outdoor events to reduce waste. More details of this environmentally friendly scheme will be introduced in the Featured Report.

In this issue, the Portraits of National Sports Association features the Hong Kong Rugby Union. When we mention rugby, most of our readers will probably think of the Hong Kong Sevens and muscular foreigners facing off against each other. In addition to organising international competitions, the Hong Kong Rugby Union is also committed to promoting rugby in our community and developing local athletes. Let’s hear what KK Chiu, Head of External Affairs and Fung Kai Hang, General Manager Rugby Participation say about it.

Flora Lam is a dance instructor. She established Forever DanceSport Club to promote DanceSport and encourage everyone to “Dance often, be happy and stay healthy”. Readers may read the Sports Hero to learn more about her passion for dance and how she turned her interest into a career.

Beach volleyball evolves from volleyball and is played at the beach. In a beach volleyball game, two teams compete against each other and the players need to attack and defend at the same time. Beach volleyball players are required to have a high level of physical strength and skills given the wide range of movements. We will introduce the origin and rules of beach volleyball in the Sports Recommendation of this issue.

“Shooting without a single miss” and “Piercing a willow leaf from a hundred paces away” are apt descriptions for 20-year-old Tsui Chun Kit and 16-year-old Lucien Law. In the New Stars of this issue, we have interviewed these two archery athletes who have achieved excellent results, represented Hong Kong in international competitions and broken Hong Kong’s records on multiple occasions.

The 14th National Winter Games will be held in February in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and athletes of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will also participate. This major national sports event, held every four years, is outlined in the Sports Kaleidoscope.

In the Latest News on Recreation and Sports, you will read about the Tuen Mun Siu Lun Sports Centre, a new sports venue. The Sports Centre was completed last year. Apart from various sports facilities such as the indoor court and sport climbing wall, the Sports Centre also houses the first children’s playroom in the district, which is an ideal place for parent-child activities. Besides, the biennial Corporate Games is coming soon. Staff from organisations in the commercial and industrial or public sectors are welcome to participate.
