The Music Office promotes knowledge and appreciation of music in the community, especially among young people. During the year, it ran an Instrumental Music Training Scheme for 4 799 trainees, along with 19 youth orchestras, bands and choirs which together had 1 425 members. It also organised 252 short-term music interest courses for 2 593 participants, and another 416 music-related activities which attracted around 177 692 people. These included a music camp, several youth music events, and a variety of educational programmes for students and the community.
As part of the office’s cultural exchange programme, the Music Office Youth Choir participated in the 2014 “Sing’n’Joy Vienna” – 29th International Schubert Choir Competition held in Vienna in June. The Youth Choir, praised by the jury for their outstanding artistic achievement, garnered 2 Gold Diplomas, one each in the Youth Mixed Choir and Sacred Choral Music competitions, and a Category Winner Award in the Youth Mixed Choir competition. The office also organised exchange activities in Hong Kong for youth music groups from Japan, UK and US.
